Actually it does. After following a web link from an AppStudio app there is no way to return to the app. It creates a dead end. You have to delete the app from the home screen and then reinstall it.
Installing the manifest and serviceworker files corrects this issue.
I was referring to the main point (and headline) of the article, which speculated that non PWA apps will be removed from the Apple store.
