Beta Test: 9.6.1: Changes to VoltServer

AppStudio 9.6.1 Beta is ready to be tested!

The beta for AppStudio 9.6.1 is now available. The biggest change is that Deploy to VoltServer now uploads to a Cloudflare server, not our own.

Advantages are

  1. Faster uploads and downloads
  2. Only uploads changed files
  3. Better prepare for potential AI abuse
  4. (and more)

The VoltServer deployment feature now publishes through Cloudflare Pages instead of hosting files on our own servers. VoltServer remains the feature name; Cloudflare Pages is the third-party hosting platform. Cloudflare’s service is currently available at no charge for this use, subject to its terms and limits. The deployment workflow is similar to before, and now uploads only changed files.

To use it, you need to enter a Cloudflare Account ID and API key into the revised Preferences…VoltServer tab. Instructions for getting those items is available on the same tab. After that, it works very much the same as now. The Cloudflare service is free of charge.

Give it a try and let us know what questions you have.

If you run into difficulties, let us know. You can reinstall the current release version and continue using that.

We’ve updated the announcement with a couple of clarifications.

Instead of saying “more secure” (which could imply we weren’t secure before, which was certainly not the case), we made the wording specific. It now reads “Better prepare for potential AI abuse”. Cloudflare has strong anti-bot features.

We also added “The VoltServer deployment feature now publishes through Cloudflare Pages instead of hosting files on our own servers. VoltServer remains the feature name; Cloudflare Pages is the third-party hosting platform. Cloudflare’s service is currently available at no charge for this use, subject to its terms and limits. The deployment workflow is similar to before, and now uploads only changed files.”

One more update - we found an error on the Wiki page for getting the upload credentials.

Permissions should include Cloudflare Pages, with Edit permission.

This all worked great for me! Thanks!

I don’t tend to do many webapps, but this has worked well!

Thanks for the good news. Several people have now confirmed it’s working well. We’ll start putting together a release.
