The name on your US tax form must exactly match the legal name on your Google Play Console developer profile to avoid verification errors. If your identity card (IC) lists your name as “Tan Thoo Song” (Surname First) but you entered “Thoo Song Tan” on the tax form, Google’s automated systems will flag a mismatch.
To fix this error, you must ensure both profiles align.

How to Fix the Name Mismatch

  1. Check your Google Payment Profile Name:
  • Go to the Google Play Console.
    • Settings > Payment profile.
    • Look at the Legal name listed under “Name and address”. This is the master name Google uses to verify tax forms.
  1. Resubmit the US Tax Form:
  • In your Google Play Console, go to Settings > Payments profile > United States tax info > Manage tax info.
    • Click Submit new form.
    • Type your legal name exactly as it appears on your Google Payment Profile and your IC. If Google has your legal profile as “Tan Thoo Song”, you must type it exactly that way on the W-8BEN/W-8BEN-E tax form.
  1. If you need to change your legal name on Google first:
  • If your Play Console profile setup is incorrect and you need it to be “Thoo Song Tan”, you must update your payment profile name first by clicking the pencil (edit) icon next to your Name and Address in the Payment Profile settings.
    • Note: Changing your legal profile name will require you to re-upload your IC for identity verification.

Once the name on the tax form matches the name on your Google payment account letter-for-letter, the form should be approved.
